Sodium Silicate

In many technological processes, preference is given specifically to sodium liquid glass due to its characteristic performance properties. Sodium silicate is widely used in construction, foundry and metallurgical production, the oil and gas industry, as well as in the manufacture of detergents and paper products.

The foundry industry is one of the largest consumers of liquid glass. It is used as a base for molding sands designed to operate at high temperatures. The use of sodium silicate reduces the risk of defects and rejects during the casting process.

In welding operations, sodium silicate is well-known as a component of electrodes, where it serves as a critical binding material.

Sodium liquid glass is used to improve the performance characteristics of concrete and cement mortars. Due to their porous structure, these materials are susceptible to moisture and aggressive substances. Sodium silicate fills these pores, preventing water and chemical compounds from penetrating the material.

Following a similar principle, the product is used to strengthen unstable soils during foundation installation. The method of injecting liquid glass into the soil is applied in both construction and the oil and gas industry—including the prevention of borehole wall collapses.

Silicate solutions are resistant to high temperatures and can withstand contact with open flames. In addition to foundry processes, this property is utilized in construction—for example, in the impregnation of wooden structures to enhance their fire safety.

In the pulp and paper industry, sodium liquid glass is used to produce paper and cardboard with improved strength characteristics.

The chemical composition of sodium silicate shifts the pH level toward the alkaline side, which is particularly important in the production of soap and various detergents. Liquid glass stabilizes the acid-alkaline balance, ensuring the proper functionality of the product's other components.

Liquid glass, including sodium solutions, is non-toxic and poses no danger to personnel when standard operating procedures are followed. The material is non-flammable and non-explosive, which simplifies its transportation and storage.
