Most often, liquid glass is purchased in wholesale batches and significant volumes. This is driven by two key factors:

  • Cost-Effectiveness: Compared to other consumables, silicate solutions have a low cost, making them advantageous even with high consumption in production or construction.
  • Practicality: Despite its affordable price, liquid glass possesses a wide range of performance properties, which is why it has long been used as a base component in the technological processes of various industries.

WHERE IS LIQUID GLASS USED MOST ACTIVELY?

There are many areas of application; below are the most common directions in which STEKLOLUX products are utilized.

CONSTRUCTION

Silicate solutions are widely used in construction due to their ability to increase the service life of materials. One of the main applications is the treatment of concrete structures, which are vulnerable due to their porous structure.

Liquid glass fills and "seals" the pores, preventing the penetration of moisture and chemically aggressive substances. Additionally, the coating reduces surface weathering and increases hardness and abrasion resistance.

Following a similar principle, silicate solutions are used for wood treatment. As a result of impregnation and hydrolysis, a layer of amorphous silica forms on the surface of the fibers, enhancing the material's strength, moisture resistance, and fire retardancy.

Significant volumes of liquid glass are also used in the installation of foundations on weak and unstable soils. In such cases, silicate solutions are injected directly into the ground to strengthen it.

FOUNDRY PRODUCTION

In the foundry industry, silicates are used as part of molding sands—a key element of the casting process. The primary reason for this choice is the high thermal stability of liquid glass, allowing it to function under extreme temperatures.

In practice, sodium liquid glass is more frequently used in foundry work. Beyond its ability to set quickly, its adhesive properties play a vital role—specifically its ability to effectively bind with heat-resistant fillers, including quartz.

Silicate solutions are also applied in the production of anti-burn-on paints, welding electrodes, and ceramic fluxes, where a combination of binding and heat-resistant characteristics is required.

OIL PRODUCTION

In the oil extraction industry, liquid glass is used to stabilize borehole walls. Once hardened, silicate solutions prevent soil shifting—a problem often associated with the impact of groundwater.

During the oil refining stage, liquid glass is utilized as a reagent for breaking down emulsions.

PRODUCTION OF HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS

One of the distinct features of liquid glass is its ability to shift the pH of a medium toward the alkaline side. This property is actively utilized in the industrial production of cleaning agents, where a strictly controlled acid-alkaline balance is necessary for all components of the formulation to function correctly.

Furthermore, silicate solutions are included in the composition of soap and other household products, where they serve as a filler and stabilizer.
