Liquid glass is a widely used product that serves as a vital component of technological processes across many industrial sectors.

Silicate solutions are generally divided into four main groups:

  • sodium;
  • potassium;
  • potassium-sodium;
  • sodium-potassium.
The choice of a specific type of liquid glass is determined by industry requirements and operating conditions, as the properties of silicate solutions can vary significantly.

Product characteristics are regulated by adding alkali, which lowers the silicate module and increases the density of the composition. In turn, density is adjusted by diluting the solution with water.

INDUSTRIAL USE OF LIQUID GLASS

Typically, silicate solutions are used in substantial volumes, particularly in mechanical engineering and construction. This is due to the material's versatility as well as its affordable cost.

In foundry production, silicates act as the primary binding component. Molding sands based on them set quickly and remain stable when exposed to high temperatures. In metallurgy, sodium liquid glass is more commonly used, as it reduces the likelihood of defects in castings.

The binding properties of silicates are also in high demand in the welding industry, where fluxes based on liquid glass are utilized. Additionally, silicate solutions are an essential component in the manufacture of welding electrodes.

In construction, liquid glass performs several functions simultaneously. It is used to produce fire- and acid-resistant cements, waterproof and fast-setting concretes, to strengthen soils in foundation zones, and to treat wooden structures.

Liquid glass is also used in large quantities in the pulp and paper industry, where its adhesive properties play a key role.

Liquid detergents, used both domestically and industrially, also contain silicate components. In this case, liquid glass is used as a filler and helps regulate the pH level of the medium.

PACKAGING FOR TRANSPORTING LIQUID GLASS

To ensure stable supplies to end consumers, various types of packaging and transport containers are used. Liquid glass is transported:
  • in drums;
  • in road and rail tankers;
  • in covered and open rail cars;
  • in polymer containers—IBC totes (Eurocubes) and canisters of various volumes.
The choice of packaging is determined by the client's convenience. Directly at the loading point, the customer can specify the preferred type and parameters of the packaging to the employee responsible for product dispatch.
