LIQUID GLASS FOR FOUNDRY PRODUCTION

Ensures mold strength, process stability, and precision casting in industrial environments.

LIQUID GLASS FOR FOUNDRY PRODUCTION

Liquid glass is a versatile silicate composition with a wide range of performance properties. STEKLOLUX products consist of an alkaline solution of sodium or potassium silicates, with parameters selected based on the requirements of the specific casting process.
In the foundry industry, sodium liquid glass is most commonly used. Its binding properties are in demand for mold casting, investment casting (lost-wax), and the production of cores and mandrels.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE IN FOUNDRY MIXES
During use, in addition to the hardening of the silicate solution, its pronounced adhesive properties toward refractory fillers—such as quartz and other molding sands—are activated.

Liquid glass for foundry purposes can harden:
  • under natural conditions — upon contact with air;
  • under targeted action — through blowing with a heated air stream;
  • through interaction with chemical hardeners.

As a result, molds gain strength quickly and are characterized by high heat capacity and good gas permeability, which reduces the likelihood of defects in the finished castings.
ANTI-BURN-ON COMPOSITIONS
The resistance of liquid glass to extreme temperatures makes it a vital component of anti-burn-on paints and varnishes used in foundry production. These coatings reduce the formation of burn-on on the surface of parts and shorten the time required for finishing.

APPLICATION IN WELDING PRODUCTION
Beyond foundry processes, STEKLOLUX liquid glass is utilized in related fields. In welding production, it:
  • acts as a binder in the manufacture of electrodes and fluxes;
  • serves as a source of sodium and potassium ions, ensuring the stability of the arc discharge;
  • acts as a source of silica, facilitating the formation and removal of slag in the weld pool.
COST-EFFECTIVENESS AND SAFETY
The widespread use of liquid glass in the foundry industry is explained by its affordable cost, stable market availability, and the potential for economical consumption. An additional advantage is the non-toxicity of silicate solutions, which reduces risks for production personnel.

The choice of a specific silicate type—sodium, potassium, sodium-potassium, or potassium-sodium—is determined by the unique characteristics of the technological process. STEKLOLUKS specialists select the optimal composition, taking into account equipment requirements and the desired end result.
